Throwback Thursday calls for Lisa Frank because it’s the perfect way to feel nostalgic. The popular 90s brand made a comeback not too long ago—2017 to be exact.
Lisa Frank was the image of 90s pop culture. Young girls carried their vibrant trapper-keepers to school filled with Lisa Frank folders, notebooks, pencils, pens and erasers.
Then the inevitable happened. The brand expanded and the whimsical illustrations then turned into plush toys and clothing and much more.
New merchandise began to appear on sites like RageOn. However you could also purchase vintage Lisa Frank items on Ebay or even Amazon.
Did you know the illustrations were hand drawn when the brand first came to life?
“All of the art back then was done by airbrush, although they did have one computer that the creative director was learning to use,” she told HelloGiggles.”
Her favorite designs were the rainbow leopard and tiger cubs who are named after her kids, Hunter and Forrest. In fact, a lot of the characters are named after real people.
According to MentalFloss, the backstory behind the unicorn, Markie, is a representation of an old friend who died young of a heart attack. He was one of the first characters created. Markie lives “in the clouds above the Fantastic World of Lisa Frank.”
Lisa Frank merchandise basically followed us 90s kids into adulthood. You can now purchase her clothing and accessories at Hot Topic and Amazon.
